Commonplace
Pricing
For the Commonplace HSA/FSA Letters app for Shopify. Last updated 7 August 2026.
The short version. The app is free for you. There is no installation fee, no monthly fee, and no commission on your sales. Your customer pays Commonplace $29 for the clinical review, and only when they choose to request a letter.
What you pay
Nothing. Installing the app, listing eligible products, showing the badge on your storefront and seeing requests in your admin all cost you nothing, at any volume.
We do not take a percentage of the order. The customer still buys the product from you, on your store, through Shopify checkout, at your price. Nothing is added to their cart and no line item is changed.
What your customer pays
$29, paid to Commonplace, for a licensed clinician to review their request and — where clinically appropriate — write and sign a Letter of Medical Necessity. That is a separate service from the product they bought from you. It is not a Shopify product and it is not part of your checkout.
The fee is shown before the first question is asked, so nobody reaches the end of a form and discovers a charge.
When nobody pays
- A clinician cannot support the request. Clinical judgment is the clinician’s, and not every request results in a letter. When one does not, your customer is not charged.
- They change their mind. Nothing is charged until they choose to go ahead.
In every one of those cases you are charged nothing either, because you are never charged at all.
Why the app is free
Commonplace already operates the clinical side — the licensed provider network, the intake, the review and the letter. The app is the front door to it. Charging you as well as the shopper for the same piece of work would be charging twice for it.
What this is not
The app is not a payment method and does not process payments on your store. It does not touch your checkout, your orders or your payouts. The clinical fee is collected by Commonplace, on Commonplace’s own platform, after the shopper leaves your store.
Letters support a customer’s HSA/FSA claim. Whether a particular expense is reimbursable is decided by their plan administrator and by IRS rules, not by us and not by you.
